Research finds that in today's world it is essential that all students know how to read and comprehend nonfiction. Students must be taught how to process and understand informational texts.
This course provides teachers with professional support to improve their nonfiction literacy instruction. This unique, nine-unit, interactive course has been developed by the highly regarded Indiana Department of Education, with support from the National Geographic Society and The Clearinghouse for Reading, English, & Communication.
Using the vivid photographs and text from National Geographic nonfiction literacy programs Windows on Literacy and Reading Expeditions, the course illustrates the differences between reading fiction and nonfiction. Course participants learn the techniques and strategies for reading and retaining nonfiction material:
