Funding Your National Geographic Explorer Magazine Subscription

Even though we work hard to keep the cost of all of our Explorer magazines as low as possible, we understand that funding can still be a problem for schools and classrooms. Here are some resources to help you find funding for Explorer. This is by no means an exhaustive list but will help get you started. Online Funding Sites for Education

Local Funding

Here is a template of a letter you can send home to parents, if you think that is appropriate.

Many school district now have their own Education Foundations that fund classroom resources. Go to http://www.schoolfoundations.org/en/list_of_foundations_by_state/ to find if your community has an education foundation.

Other local organizations or businesses that may give grants to schools:

The Rotary Club
Kiwanis Club
Chamber of Commerce
Museums (especially science ones for Explorer)
Technology companies
Any large corporation that has a local presence
University Foundations
Women’s Clubs
Associations
Target (It prefers to give at the community level.)

State Funding

A great site to find individual state grants is: www.schoolgrants.org
Your state Dept. of Education website can also help. See your State Resources page for a link to your state Department of Education.

Federal Funding

Title I Funds
Explorer magazine can be paid for using Title I funds for schools that have a 40% or higher free and reduced lunch rate. Reading First

Striving Readers
